Hanlon to head city’s facilities department

Neponset’s John Hanlon has been tapped by Mayor Walsh to oversee the management, maintenance, repair, security, and operations of Boston City Hall and City Hall Plaza, Faneuil Hall and other municipal facilities as the new commissioner of Property and Construction Management. The news was announced on Wednesday morning.

“John brings an incredible amount of experience and knowledge to his new role as commissioner,” said Mayor Walsh in a statement. “I am excited to welcome him to the team and look forward to working with him to improve our buildings and public facilities to ensure that we are delivering the very best city services to the people of Boston.”

Hanlon has served most recently as the chief operating officer for the non-profit Scholar Athletes, Inc. He is well-known in Dorchester as the former executive director of the Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program (Project D.E.E.P.), focused on mentoring services for middle school youth.

Hanlon, a graduate of Boston Latin School, Duke University and Boston University, lives in Dorchester with his wife Caroline and their four children Sydney, Jackie, Mallory, and Maggie.
