Man charged with stabbing mother in Mattapan arrested after brief standoff with police

The Boston Police Department reports officers drew their guns yesterday before arresting Matthew Davis, 25, of Roxbury, on charges he repeatedly stabbed his mother in an apartment building at 435 River St. in Mattapan on Tuesday.

Police say the BPD fugitive unit tracked Davis to 157 Adams St. in Dorchester Wednesday - where officers found him inside, standing at the top of a staircase:

In a statement, police say:

"Upon seeing the officers, the suspect immediately and implausibly thrust his hands into his waistband area. Fearing the presence of a weapon, officers immediately unholstered their department issued firearms and ordered the suspect to show his hands. Instead of quickly complying, the suspect chose to stare blankly at the officers. After several additional verbal commands instructing the suspect to remove his hands from his waistband area, the suspect finally complied. However, as officers moved in to handcuff the suspect, the suspect again inexplicably grabbed for an unknown object in his waist area, later shown to be an 8-inch knife. Fortunately, officers were able to secure the suspect’s arms before he could arm himself."

Davis is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court Thursday on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police say his mother, 45, is now expected to recover from her injuries.
