Riverway center to get facelift by summer’s end

The lower level of the Riverway shopping center at 90 River Street in Mattapan, will get a much-needed facelift to its aging storefront and parking area. The property owner, Trinity Financial, Inc. and tenants Rite Aid Pharmacy will each make “substantial improvements” through the project, which is set to start this week. Rite Aid will remain open to its customers during an extensive inside renovation.

In a statement, Trinity said it would concentrate on the outside work. “Workers will clean the brick and add much larger windows, relocate and enlarge the doorway, and add new metal panels to give a thoroughly updated look,” said Cathryn O’Hare, director of communications for the company. “In addition, the façade will have new accent lighting, a new awning over the entryway and a ‘Greenscreen’ on the building façade, that is, a three dimensional, welded wire trellising system.

Mechanical equipment that now sits in front of Rite Aid will be relocated to the roof. Other work will focus on a new trash system, upgrades to the loading dock and lighting. The upper level of The Riverway was renovated five years ago. The latest renovations should be completed in August, O’Hare said.
