BPD seek charges against serial purse-snatcher

Boston Police believe they have a suspect in one-man purse-snatching spree in which four women were targeted in and around Savin Hill over 12 hours on Sept. 27-28. The suspect in all four street robberies was described as a white male in his early 50s with short white hair. The suspect— who has not yet been identified —was arrested two days later by Rhode Island State Police.

“Our detectives worked closely with Quincy Police Department and an arrest was made within 36 hours,” said Capt. Tim Connolly, who commands District C-11. “We believe it’s our guy and detectives are working on the case right now. Since we got him there’s been no further robberies.”

In each incident, a woman was knocked down and robbed by a man who then jumped into a tan SUV and fled the scene. None of the victims were seriously hurt.

Connolly said that the same suspect is believed to have carried out similar robberies in the North Quincy area that same week.

“This is a South Shore guy who started this in Quincy and extended into Dorchester in a small area and he just kept robbing women,” said Connolly.
