IBEW to host ‘benefits expo’ for veterans, families

IBEW Local 103 will host a Boston Building Trades’ Veterans & Military Families Benefits Expo on Sat., April 16 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. The event is open to the public, but will be specifically geared towards the membership of both Local Union 103 and the other Boston Building Trades, including retirees, surviving spouses, or other families with military connections.

“Multiple organizations will be on hand to talk with veterans and military service members about education, financial planning, and healthcare resources,” said Keith Jermyn, Director of Veterans’ Services. “Veteran benefit administration and state veteran service officers will be available for veterans to apply for federal and state disability compensation and other benefits. Vendors will include representatives from the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs, The Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services and The Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea, Veteran Service Officers Association, other Massachusetts state offices, educational institutions, and non-profits.”

The event stems from research conducted by At Ease Strategies, INC., who sent the entire membership a survey regarding military service and veterans’ status.

“The survey produced over 400 positive responses, indicating the members wanted the union to provide a means for ascertaining veterans benefits and eligibility status,” said Jermyn.

The benefits expo will be held in at IBEW Local 103, 256 Freeport St., Dorchester. Free parking and free admission is offered. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Keith Jermyn by email at jermynk@hingham-ma.gov.
