Jeep dealership on deck in Neponset

There’s more news on the suddenly booming car business front in Dorchester this week. A popular auto dealership in Neponset will change hands next Monday if all goes according to plan. The Shrewsbury-based Sentry Auto Group will sell its property at 40 Hallet St. to Quirk Auto Group for an undisclosed price.

Dan Quirk, president of the Braintree-based auto group, confirmed Wednesday that he has entered into an agreement to buy the building, which is situated just off the expressway near Neponset Circle. Quirk intends to open a new Jeep dealership on the site by October, he said.

“We’re very excited about the Dorchester location,” said Quirk. “The Boston market is terrific and right now people in Dorchester and South Boston and Mattapan and Roxbury don’t really have any place to go for sales and service.”

Chris Lemley, president of Sentry Auto Group, said the company’s collision center will remain open “through the transition to new ownership.” Some of his employees will remain with Sentry at their other locations in Medford and Shrewsbury, while others are “going to stay in Dorchester with Quirk.”

Last week, the Reporter broke the news that Herb Chambers Companies intends to build a new, 80,000-square foot Jaguar and Land Rover dealership at 75 Morrissey Blvd., right next to the Boston Globe campus.
