Postal worker grazed by bullet near Merrill Street

A United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier was hit in the leg by a stray bullet around 6:30 p.m. last Tuesday (June 21) while on his mail route in the area of a shooting incident near the intersection of Merrill and Glenarm Streets in the Erie-Ellington neighborhood.

A spokesman for the USPS Northeast Region said the letter carrier was okay. “They were treated and released from a local hospital,” said USPS spokesman Steve Doherty. “We’re grateful the outcome wasn’t far worse under the circumstances. It’s believed that the carrier wasn’t targeted, just injured in the crossfire.”
