Special Event: The Future of Local News

Two ways to support community journalism in Boston’s neighborhoods..

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Dorchester Reporter will host an evening at Southline Boston to celebrate community journalism and launch the Thomas F. Mulvoy Jr. Scholarship.

There are two ways to get involved:

Supporting The Reporter: Sponsorships for the May 28 Event

The Reporter has been covering Boston’s neighborhoods for more than 40 years. Keeping that work going, and expanding it, takes real resources. Sponsorships for the May 28 event help fund the Reporter’s journalism and its growing role in developing pathways into the field for local students. Sponsor levels include event recognition, tickets, and visibility across The Reporter’s print and digital platforms.

The May 28 evening will bring together people from media, education, business, and civic life who care about local news and about the city of Boston.

Below is a sponsorship guide with the full details.

Supporting the Mulvoy Scholarship: The Forry Foundation for Community Journalism

The Thomas F. Mulvoy Scholarship was created through Edward W. Forry and Mary Casey Forry Foundation for Community Journalism to open doors for aspiring journalists from Boston’s neighborhoods. It’s named for Tom Mulvoy, a longtime Boston Globe editor, Dorchester Reporter contributor, teacher, and mentor whose six-decade career has touched more journalists than he probably knows. The scholarship will help students from this city pursue careers in reporting and media, with the goal of building a pipeline of journalists who actually know and reflect the communities they cover.

Tax-deductible donations to the Forry Foundation directly fund the scholarship.

“We have to be intentional about recruiting and training the next generation of reporters and newsroom leaders from our neighborhoods.”
