The Boston Area Church League will kick off its free summer baseball program for Boston youth on Saturday, July 4th, with opening day festivities beginning at 9 a.m. at Hunt-Almont Playground, 38 Almont St., Mattapan.

The league is open to Boston children ages 6-12 and runs every Saturday morning through August 15. Organizers say the program is designed to help young players develop baseball skills, build friendships, and participate in a positive team environment at no cost to families.

Opening day will include a color guard presentation, an opening prayer, musical performances, youth workouts, group photos, lunch, ice cream, and friendly games. Wally from the Boston Red Sox will also make an appearance, as well as one of the team’s World Series Trophies for photo opportunities. Activities begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and conclude around 1 p.m.

The program is presented by the Boston Area Church League in partnership with the Boston Police Department, Boston Police Foundation, Red Sox Foundation, CVS Health, Meet Boston, Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy, Dorchester Reporter, and several other community organizations.

Registration is free. Families can complete a registration form online at www.bostonareachurchleague.com/registration or email the completed form to BostonAreaChurchLeague2026@gmail.com.
