Several political and community leaders with ties to Dorchester and Roxbury have been named to a series of advisory councils formed by US Sen. Ed Markey’s re-election campaign.
Markey is facing a stiff re-election challenge from US Rep. Seth Moulton.
The campaign announced Monday that it has established Black, Latino, AAPI, LGBTQ+, and Youth advisory councils whose members will advise on policy priorities and messaging through the September primary and beyond.
Among the members of the Black Advisory Council are state Sen. Liz Miranda, state Rep. Chris Worrell, and Kimberly Lyle of Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation.
Miranda, a Roxbury native, represents the Second Suffolk Senate district, which includes Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, along with portions of several other Boston neighborhoods. Worrell represents the 5th Suffolk House district in Dorchester and Roxbury and is a Dorchester native.
Lyle is the CEO of the Uphams Corner-based Dorchester Bay EDC, the longtime community development organization whose work includes affordable housing, small-business lending, and neighborhood investment.
The Black Advisory Council also includes state Sen. Lydia Edwards, Rev. Art Gordon of Peoples Baptist Church, Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers president Michael Curry, Moses Dixon, Tracy Little-Sasanecki, and Anthony and Errin Davis.
José Massó III of Hyde Park is part of the 12-member Latino council named by Markey’s team. State Rep. Sam Montaño, whose district and community work include Roxbury, was named to the campaign’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Council.
The campaign said members of the five councils have been meeting with Markey and campaign staff about issues affecting their communities. Markey said the councils are intended to give community leaders a continuing role in shaping campaign priorities and holding him accountable to the constituencies he represents.
