Last March, neighbors roundly rejected a proposal for a nail salon to occupy the former Cedar Grove Gardens site at 911 Adams St. Last week, a for-sale sign went up at the prominent site across from gates of Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The property is now listed with the Galvin Group, a local real estate firm.
In a social media post, Galvin Group’s Will Folan calls the commercial property a “perfect investment/development opportunity.”
At some 12,000 square fee overall, with 3,300 square feet of living area, the site “offers outstanding potential in a high-demand area with an excellent lot size and long-term value,” Folan wrote.
The longtime garden center and gift shop closed in January 2024. In 2018, the property changed hands when Richard Lee acquired it from Richard O’Mara, who had operated the business since 1979. O’Mara has since opened up a new storefront business on Dorchester Avenue across from Ashmont station.
While Lee originally said that he might re-open the garden center or refurbish the building for housing, last year he advanced a plan to lease the first floor to a nail salon business. The proposal called for roughly 2,740 square feet of space for manicure and pedicure stations, waxing rooms, hair services, and nine parking spots.
But neighbors who attended an abutters meeting last March roundly denounced the plan and Lee later abandoned the idea.
No asking price has been publicly advertised for the property. The city of Boston assessed the property’s value at $958,500 in 2025; it sold for more than $1 million in 2018.
