A newly-built ramp on Adams Street that serves as a new access-point for the Milton stop on the Mattapan hi-speed trolley line was dedicated by MBTA and local officials on Wed., Sept. 30.
The ADA-compliant walkway replaces a stairway that was closed off and eventually demolished in March 2023.

“So much thanks to the public because this project and this effort came from public feedback,” said interim state Transportation Secretary and MBTA General Manager Philip Eng. “From all of the elected officials here with us today that have been continuing to champion the importance of public transportation and accessibility for the communities we serve.”
“This walkway is now an ADA accessible route. It’s an 8-foot-wide, fully lit, sloped walkway,” Eng said. “Something that we found to be true most of the time, not all of the time, on our ADA focus projects: the benefits help everyone. Whether you need it physically, whether you are with children, or whether you’re carrying packages and groceries, accessibility is critical, and just making it easier to use our system is beneficial for all. Grocery carts, strollers, luggage, children with scooters- basically everybody who needs to access this station; this ramp is for them.”
The project, part of a larger plan to make upgrades along the Mattapan Line, also includes new lighting, security cameras, handrails, signage, seating, and landscaping. Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. and Rep. Richard Wells Jr., both of Milton, also attended the event.
“This represents the first visible and major improvement made to the Mattapan Line since the refurbished trolleys began entering daily service several years ago,” said Driscoll. “I look forward to welcoming the MBTA back for additional celebratory ribbon cuttings in the future as the stops and stations are renovated as part of the projects that will bring hundreds of millions of dollars in improvements to the overall service, accessibility, and experience for riders all along the Mattapan Line.”
Wells said he was “glad to see this project finally completed, and I thank my colleagues in government, Senator Bill Driscoll and Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid, for their continued advocacy and partnership in this effort.”
