US Rep. Ayanna Pressley has joined the campaign opposing Question 3, the statewide ballot measure that would replace Massachusetts’ partisan primary elections with a single all-party primary beginning in 2028.
Under Question 3, all candidates would appear on the same primary ballot regardless of party affiliation, and the top two vote-getters would advance to the general election. A “no” vote would preserve the current system of separate party primaries. Massachusetts voters will decide the question on Nov. 3.
“We can’t let private equity and dark money groups rig Massachusetts primaries to shut out working class candidates, candidates of color, and first-time candidates in favor of those who have fast access to massive wealth and the biggest ad budgets,” Pressley said in a statement released by the campaign.
“I’m proud to join this broad coalition to oppose this harmful ballot question and keep power in the hands of the people. Vote No on 3.”
Pressley this week also endorsed the campaign opposing Question 8, the ballot measure that would end legal retail sales of recreational marijuana in Massachusetts in 2028.
Pressley is the first member of the Massachusetts congressional delegation to endorse the No on 8: Stop the Repeal campaign, according to organizers.
“Cannabis legalization and regulation is positive for small businesses, local communities, and restorative justice,” Pressley said in a statement. “Keeping marijuana legal in Massachusetts is both economic justice and racial justice policy.”
