‘Making it easier for families to get outside’
The Edward Byrne Playground in Dorchester’s Clam Point section will receive $425,000 in improvements, thanks to a state open space grants announcement of more than $13 million awarded to 45 projects statewide.
The award will pay for an expanded inclusive playground, upgraded water play area, renovated tennis and pickleball courts, a new accessible walking loop, improved pathways and circulation, enhanced seating and gathering areas, new lighting, upgraded landscaping, and expanded tree canopy.
“We’re making it easier for families to get outside, for kids to play and for everyone to enjoy what makes our state unique,” said Gov. Maura Healey.
The grant is awarded through the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) Grant Program, which helps cities and towns create and renovate outdoor recreation areas.
Added state Sen. Nick Collins: “I am grateful to Gov. Healey for prioritizing urban open and green space across the Commonwealth. This grant award is a reflection of that commitment and demonstrates the state’s support for the people of Boston.
“I will continue to advocate with my colleagues for this program in the state budget so that more neighborhoods can benefit from new, enhanced, or expanded green space.”
