A woman who was struck by a Red Line train inside the JFK-UMass station on Friday afternoon (Oct. 16) is expected to survive, according to MBTA Police.

First responders were called to the station just after 4:55 p.m. for a report of a person under a train.

According to an MBTA Police official, the woman “entered the right-of-way” as a train was approaching the platform and was struck.

A reporter observed Boston firefighters and EMTs attempting to extricate the woman as a swarm of emergency vehicles descended on the area around 5 p.m. in the middle of rush hour.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with what were later described as “no-life-threatening” injuries.

The incident resulted in major delays to the evening commute as the investigation and rescue continued.

“It is our sincere hope she has a speedy recovery and receives the support she requires,” MBTA Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement.
