This Thanksgiving morning, November 28th, area runners and walkers will be lacing up to trot the historic paths of Franklin Park, the “crown jewel” of Boston’s Emerald Necklace. Now in its seventh year, the annual holiday race has become a family favorite.
From turkeys in tutus to pumpkin pie-hats and creative group costumes, participants always bring a side of fun to the starting line -- last year’s winner was Team Black Girls Do Run as “Where’s Waldo?”
"It’s wonderful to see all ages and paces head off from the start, and I love watching the finish line for the prize winning first dog and first baby stroller to finish,” says Race Director and Franklin Park Coalition Board Member Debbie Munson. "We are so lucky to have this beautiful course that shows off some of Franklin Parks best views and pathways." The Coalition is expecting a large field of runners and walkers for the 7th annual running of the Turkey Trot.
Runner registration for the race supports the Franklin Park Coalition’s programs and events, including the popular Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park summer concert series, as well as advocacy and stewardship in the park. This is also the second year for #Parksgiving, an appeal to “pay it forward”, helping others to make memories at Franklin Park by making a donation to help raise $10k by end of year to support events and programming at the park.
2019 marks the Coalition’s 45th anniversary and the organization has been a key player in helping to keep community members involved and informed while planning for the future of Franklin Park. This year, the Coalition served as a community advocate for both the Shattuck Campus Planning process and Franklin Park Master Planning Process. They also strengthened community partnerships with Lena Park Community Development Corporation, relocating their office onto the CDC’s campus.
Online registration for the 2019 Turkey Trot is open until Wednesday, November 27th. The start time is 9 am. Participants are encouraged to arrive early for number pick-up. See https://www.franklinparkcoalition.org/featured-events/turkey-trot/ for complete information.
