Globe, WBUR and WCVB join UMass to host mayoral debate

A mayoral debate sponsored by a media consortium is set for Thursday, Sept. 9.

WBUR, The Boston Globe, WCVB is joining UMass Boston’s Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies to host the debate at WBUR’s CitySpace location on Commonwealth Avenue and on Boston University’s campus.

The debate is set to air at 7 p.m. on WBUR and streamed online.

Tiziana Dearing, the host of “Radio Boston” on WBUR, and Boston Globe columnist Adrian Walker are the moderators.

“It’s hard to imagine a more important time to hear the major mayoral candidates in Boston debate the issues,” Dearing said in a statement. “This race makes history in so many ways. I’m excited to engage with the candidates on the issues and all of the challenges important to Boston’s voters.”

All five major mayoral candidates have agreed to participate, according to organizers. They include John Barros, Andrea Campbell, Annissa Essaibi George, Kim Janey and Michelle Wu.

The preliminary election in the city of Boston is Tuesday, Sept. 14.
