The former Cedar Grove Gardens property on Adams Street would be renovated and re-open as a nail salon under a proposal that will be reviewed by abutters next week.

The Mayor’s Office has arranged for a Zoom meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 30 “to get community input and listen to the resident’s positions on this proposal,” according to a flier shared with the Reporter.

The longtime garden center and gift shop at 911 Adams St. closed in Jan. 2024. The property itself changed hands in 2018 when Richard Lee acquired it from Richard O’Mara, who had operated the floral business across from the gates of Cedar Grove Cemetery since 1979.

O’Mara has since opened up a smaller shop in a storefront retail space on Dorchester Avenue.

Lee initially said he might re-use the Adams Street parcel for housing or re-open as a garden center. However, the site has been inactive since Jan. 2024.

Architectural drawings filed with the city suggest that the existing building will stay in place, but be renovated to accommodate a nail salon business. One drawing shows the former garden center’s yard being re-purposed to accomodate parking for up to nine vehicles.

The proposal requires a change in use from the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals, since nail salons are not included in permitted uses for the site.

The abutters meeting is a required step before the proposal is heard by the board.
