The Seattle Storm selected Dorchester’s Taina Mair as the 14th pick in the first round of the 2026 WNBA draft on Monday night.
The 5-foot-9 point guard, who got her start in Fields Corner, left her mark at Duke, a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion while she wore the Blue Devils uniform.
Over her three seasons, Mair became one of five Duke players to reach 1,000 points and 500 career assists. During her collegiate career overall, including her first year at Boston College, Mair posted 1,367 points, 610 rebounds, and 675 assists – the seventh most in ACC history.
This past season alone, No. 22 was named to the All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Defensive Team, and voted the ACC Tournament MVP.

Now she’ll take her talents to the West Coast, where she will join fellow Duke alumna Lexi Brown on the Storm roster. Last season, Brown and the team finished fourth in the Western Conference with a 23-21 record before losing to the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs.
Their 2026 season tip-off is scheduled for Fri., May 8, against the Golden State Valkyries. In the three weeks to come, Mair will be battling for a spot on the final roster.
In an interview with The Reporter last month, Mair said her advice to young athletes was to “just work hard. If you continue to work hard and be determined, then you can literally do whatever you want to do.”
