The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute will host the 30th Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace on Sunday, May 10, bringing thousands of residents, survivors, advocates, and community organizations together for one of Boston’s largest annual peace and healing events.
The annual 5K walk begins and ends at Town Field in Dorchester and raises funds to support families impacted by homicide, trauma, grief, and loss through the Peace Institute’s survivor services, youth programs, advocacy efforts, and reentry support initiatives.
Organizers say the event has welcomed more than 500,000 participants since it was founded in 1996 by Chaplain Clementina Chéry after the murder of her son, Louis D. Brown.
This year’s theme, “30 Years Strong,” highlights three decades of community organizing and remembrance. Participants are encouraged to walk in honor of loved ones lost to violence while helping the organization reach its $600,000 fundraising goal.
The walk is scheduled to begin with registration at 7 a.m., followed by an opening program at 8 a.m. and the official kickoff at 9 a.m. The 3.2-mile route winds through Dorchester neighborhoods before returning to Town Field.
For the first time in the event’s history, organizers will also host a post-walk rally and concert from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring live music by Angelena & The Unit, DJ Junbug, food trucks, and family activities.
The commemorative logo for this year’s walk was created by Generation Peace youth artist Shiloh Denis and centers on the theme of unity.
More information, including registration and fundraising details, is available at the official Mother’s Day Walk for Peace website.
