A 20-year-old Jamaica Plain man was arrested Wednesday night after police say he opened fire on Boston police officers during a foot pursuit near Devon and Laredo streets in Dorchester.
Officers from districts B-3 and B-2 responded at about 9:11 p.m. on July 15 after a radio call reporting an officer in trouble. Police said officers had stopped a man near the intersection before he fled on foot and allegedly fired a weapon in their direction.
The suspect, identified by police as Rasiel Joel Carbuccia, ran through backyards between Devon and Stanwood streets before officers apprehended him behind 8 Stanwood St.
The two officers involved in the initial encounter were not reported injured, but both were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police secured an area extending from Devon and Laredo streets to Blue Hill Avenue and searched the suspect’s alleged path of flight. Officers recovered a firearm behind 71 Devon St., as well as a projectile in the roadway near the initial encounter. Police also reported ballistic damage to the windshield of a Boston Police cruiser.
The recovered weapon was described as a privately made “ghost gun” without a serial number. Police said it had one spent casing lodged in the chamber and 16 live rounds in a large-capacity magazine.
Carbuccia was wanted on an active Roxbury District Court warrant charging assault with a dangerous weapon, police said.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court today on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a covert or undetectable firearm, and trespassing.
