On the afternoon of Saturday, August 8, neighbors from Shawmut, Melville-Park, St. Mark’s, and Codman Square will gather on Sharp Street for an annual Summer Block Party.
The event, organized by Build Together, Epiphany School, Melville Park Neighborhood Association, St Mark’s Area Civic Association, and Greater Ashmont Main Streets, will take place from 1 to 4 p.m.
“Epiphany is helping make that happen,” said event coordinator Sierra Rothberg. “They are the biggest drivers of this event, and they kind of initiated the idea in a post-pandemic time, when there are not as many opportunities for neighbors to get together in this type of capacity.”
Just in front of the Epiphany School, neighbors can enjoy music, free food, and activities.
“There’s a lot of water play, there’s food, there’s games, and it’s really just neighbors coming together,” said Rothberg. “There are children’s events, so it’s very family-friendly and there is also a clothing swap that happens inside the [school].”
The beloved summer tradition is a great way to get to know or reconnect with neighbors. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their favorite side dish to share with new and old friends.
“What I’ve been hearing about it is people really look forward to it because it is a time and a celebration that the overarching theme is just community and getting together and being together,” Rothberg told the Reporter. “People should come just to have a good time.”
