Dorchester amateur boxer Dawn Morris is hosting a KO Cancer Fundraiser at Dorchester Brewing Co. this Thursday evening (Sept. 17), just a little over a month before Haymakers for Hope’s Belles of the Brawl at MGM Music Hall.
Morris, who has lived in the community her entire life, will step into the ring on October 14 to take on opponent Lori Flynn. But before the first bell, the 40-year-old is working to raise funds for research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
“I reached out to DBCo, and they have been super kind to allow me to have space inside the brewery to host a KO Cancer Fundraiser where I will have a ton of raffles for people to try and win,” said Morris. “All the raffles were donated by a lot of the local businesses or businesses that I’ve reached out to online.”
Besides beer and other cocktails, the evening will also feature baked goods made by Morris, who works at her family’s market, DJ’s Polish Market.
Morris added: “We will have a sweet winnings table that will have some custom cakes, fun cakes that people can also win and take home with them.”
To make the night even sweeter, attendees can purchase a Flight of Cupcakes, a Flight of Cookies, or both ahead of time on Morris’ fundraising page.
The event is free to attend and begins at 6 p.m. Morris has raised $17,502.61 so far and aims to reach $20,000 by fight night next month.
