English High School alumni will gather at Dorchester’s Florian Hall next month for an all-class reunion that will offer a special tribute to two graduates who served with the famed Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering group of Black military aviators and support personnel who served during World War II.
The “Tropical celebration” on Sat., Oct. 10 is sponsored by the school’s alumni association, which is planning an evening of food, music, dancing, and raffles.
Guests are encouraged to wear tropical attire, with contests planned for West Indian, Caribbean, and Hawaiian-themed outfits.
The centerpiece will be the presentation honoring Brig. Gen. Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse, Class of ’44, and Lt. Col. Leo Gray, Class of ‘42. Woodhouse, who will turn 100 next Jan. 14, is honored locally with a mural displayed at Logan Airport’s Terminal C.
The aircraft model of a Tuskegee Airman’s “Red Tail” aircraft will replicate the plane flown by Gray that is being donated by Robert “Bob” Desourdis, who has worked to preserve the history of the Airmen’s service.
“This is much more than a reunion,” said Greg Hayes, chair of the alumni board and a member of the Class of 1967. “It’s an opportunity for generations of EHS alumni to come together, celebrate where we came from, honor those who made history, and introduce today’s students to the legacy they are carrying forward.”
