Whether it’s a set of mirrors for $3, or a reversable Harlem Globetrotters jersey – or maybe even a used hammer or screwdriver – few places can match the frugality and fun of the Ashmont Hill Yard Sale.

Last Saturday (May 16), the annual yard sale celebrated 46 years of dozens of locations selling or giving away unwanted items for bargain prices – with some bartering occasionally necessary.

Hundreds visited the neighborhood off Washington Street near Codman Square on a sunny Saturday to see what they could find.

Andrew and Alethea Haile marveled at toy dinosaur figures, while Grant Koven was all smiles over the miniature foosball table he scored on Montague Street.

Meanwhile, Donte Tyler (above) tried his best to sell a six-foot painting of Marilyn Monroe and Matt Rowe left Ocean Street with a great deal on a floor rug – 100 percent free.

The annual rite of spring lasted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The entire family was involved in selling off all kinds of items on Roslin Street, including Dorsey Mitchell, Zhi ‘Darth Vader’ Simon, Marsha Innis-Mitchell, and back, Roy Innis. Seth Daniel photo
