Former Boston City Councillor Charles C. Yancey’s Annual Book Fair celebrated its 40th anniversary last Sunday (Oct. 25) at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Roxbury. With help from volunteers, Yancey has distributed more than 700,000 books over four decades. “Access to books can open doors, inspire dreams, and change the direction of a young person’s life,” said Yancey, who lives in Dorchester’s Melville Park neighborhood. At left, the councillor is shown in a photo with Mayor Wu and other dignitaries at Sunday’s event.
