Rep.-elect Carvalho will be sworn in on May 14

Arriving with less than three months remaining for formal sessions, the most junior member of the 2013-2014 class of the House of Representatives, Evandro Carvalho is set to be sworn-in May 14 at 12:30 p.m., Gov. Deval Patrick said Wednesday.

Carvalho will arrive a few weeks after the House budget process, but before the final budget is set to be approved by the two branches. Carvalho won a special election for the seat most recently occupied by Carlos Henriquez. After he was convicted on two counts of assault and battery for an early morning incident with a woman he was seeing in Arlington, Henriquez attempted to retain his seat, but was expelled by a vote of the House.

The Dorchester-Roxbury seat was the last vacancy that Speaker Robert DeLeo ordered filled with a special election this session. The Governor’s Council certified the results Wednesday. Carvalho won a five-way primary April 1 and was uncontested on the April 29 general election ballot.
