Online tool links Boston seniors with volunteer help

A free platform is available in Boston to enable older, at-risk individuals connect with volunteers who can help with doorstep deliveries of medications or food.

Good Neighbors was announced Saturday morning by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and Nesterly, who in 2017 partnered on the Intergenerational Homeshare Pilot that matches households that have spare bedrooms with students in need of affordable accommodations.

"This new volunteer platform will help organize and activate volunteers looking to help seniors who need things like groceries, medication, or just a good old fashioned phone call check-in," Walsh said in a statement.

Platform users can submit requests by phone, email or online and volunteers will go through background checks and receive guidance about protective equipment and safety protocols to follow during deliveries.

"We are proud to continue to connect generations and shine light on the incredible generosity and resiliency of our communities," said Noelle Marcus, founder and CEO of Nesterly.
