The Friends of Ronan Park will host their annual Kite Festival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. a week from Saturday, June 21, to kick off the start of summer.
“It’s the biggest event that we put on in the park through this neighborhood group,” said Alessandra Pollina, who’s on the board of directors for the friends’ group. “It’s a chance for the wider neighborhood to come together, and really just celebrate the park and activate it in a really fun way.”
The Friends are dedicated to preserving and promoting Ronan Park, the city-owned space off Mt. Ida Road between Fields Corner and Meetinghouse Hill. The event will be centered at the park’s baseball diamond. Community members can borrow kites so the only limit to the day is the sky.
Even if the wind is not blowing strongly, there will be plenty of other things to do. From face painting to food, and children’s games to art projects, there’ll be fun for all ages.
“I think it’s a special thing to have a shared experience and come together in that way, even when you live in such a big neighborhood and such a big city,” Pollina said. “We’re all a part of this city together, and it’s good to have that feeling whenever you can.”
The group is still looking for volunteers to help set up, fold paper airplanes, fly kites, paint faces, and break down. If you’re interested in helping, connect with friendsofronanpark.com for more information.
