A city of Boston plan to build a new building complex for the Madison Park Technical Vocational High School in Roxbury received a boost last week when the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) invited the school district to seek funds through a competitive, state-run grant program.

Mayor Wu called it a “momentous decision” that could lead to a “transformational investment in Madison Park that will redefine the opportunities for our students and the trajectory of our economic future.”

The vote by the MSBA does not guarantee state funding for the project, but ensures that the Madison Park plan will be considered for funds as Boston continues to design a new complex for the Roxbury-based vocational school. Wu has said that a renovation will include an expansion to add grades 7 and 8 to the current high school.

Other school projects that have earned MSBA consideration in recent years include the merged Shaw-Taylor School on the Dorchester-Mattapan border and the Ruth Batson Academy on Columbia Point.

The MSBA board also voted last week to approve agreements with Boston to fund windows and door replacements at Dorchester’s Everett Elementary School and the Murphy K-8 School in Dorchester, and to pay for a new roof at the Kenny Elementary School in Dorchester.
