Milkweed — the Morrissey Boulevard eatery that has quickly become a neighborhood go-to for breakfast and lunch — is launching its long-awaited dinner service this week, with the first meals set for Thursday (April 9).
“We definitely want to focus on family-friendly, upscale comfort food,” said co-owner Dave Cawley. “Fresh ingredients, locally sourced, but first and foremost family friendly.”
Dinner will be served on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 5 to 10 p.m., with a menu that will mirror that of the Mission Hill location, which offers options for every family member.
“When I say the emphasis is on kid-friendly, family atmosphere, we want to cater to parents that want to have a nice entree,” Cawley said. “They don’t have to have steak tips or cheese pizza because their kids are. [They can have] something like a salmon with bok choy and green thai curry or streak frites or homemade potato gnocchi with a pesto cream sauce and fresh burrata.”

The menu also includes several salads and starters like crispy calamari, sweet potato flatbread, and wings. Each item can be paired with a side like truffle fries or pan roasted brussels sprouts and a cocktail, beer, or glass of wine.
While people come for the food, Cawley, who co-owned the Blarney Stone, said he hopes they stay for the community.
“We just want to be known as the place where you can go and know the staff. We have a very low staff turnover. Our staff lives in the community,” he said. “We just want to be that staple of the community like the Blarney Stone was in Fields Corner for over two decades. If you’re considering going out to dinner with your family, we want to be at the top of the list of the considerations.”
Cawley, who is considering expanding dinner hours in the future, said that “private parties would be a thing I’d like to focus on.”
A party, or just a regular night at 1010 Morrissey Blvd can be completed with a skillet cookie, warm chocolate fudge cake, brioche banana bread pudding, or apple cheesecake crumble.
