The public is invited to attend a workshop this Saturday (April 18) at the Codman Square Branch of the Boston Public Library to learn more about an effort to memorialize and identify Black women buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Forgotten for decades, the graves have markers noting “Home for Aged Women” and “Home for Aged Colored Women,” but have no names of the Black women interred there.
The Roxbury artist Ekua Holmes has been commissioned to create a public memorial in the cemetery honoring the women. Saturday’s event, which starts at 1 p.m., is dubbed “Give Them Their Flowers: A Community Workshop Honoring the 133 Women of Cedar Grove.”
