Dorchester’s own Bill and Denise Richard joined runners on the Boston Marathon course on Monday as part of a team in support of Tom Smith, a Swampscott native who is a leading advocate for spinal cord injury recovery and research.

The outing carried added significance for Denise Richard, who completed the course for the first time. She has raised more than $62,000 through Tuesday for the Thomas E. Smith Foundation.

Bill and Denise were joined by their son Henry, who ran the marathon as well, along with Boston Athletic Association President Jack Fleming, center, Joe Ford and Tom Smith.
