The MBTA says it has completed a round of infrastructure upgrades on the Red Line’s Ashmont branch and the Mattapan Line following recent service suspensions.
The work included testing and commissioning for the Red Line’s new digital signal system, track and tamping improvements between Savin Hill and Fields Corner, and power infrastructure upgrades at the Codman Yard, which supports the Mattapan Line.

MBTA officials said the upgrades are intended to improve reliability, ride quality, and long-term resiliency. A speed restriction between Savin Hill and Fields Corner that had been in place since last August was also removed after the tamping work.
Additional work during the shutdown included bridge and retaining wall inspections, ramp repairs for accessibility, and installation of conduit over the Adams Street Bridge near Milton Station to protect cables and other infrastructure.
