The home.stead café and bakery in Fields Corner will permanently close on June 20, according to a social media post today.
Owner Jack Wu confirmed to The Reporter that the café would cease operations this month after 10 years of operations.
The corner location at Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street has been a popular spot for coffee, baked goods, sandwiches and community celebrations.
“After 10 years of being a third place for the wonderful Dorchester community, we have made the difficult decision with heavy hearts to close our door after June 20,” read a post on the shop’s Facebook page today. “We would love to see you all. We invite you to stop by for your favorite cup of coffee or pastry and to say goodbyes.”

The post continued that the café was grateful for the years of friendship and support that has grown out of the shop in the past decade.
“It has truly been a privilege to have known you, and we would love to stay in touch,” read the post. “Thank you again for being a big part of our journey and our family in having created many beautiful memories.”
Home.stead got its start with a Crowdfunding campaign in 2015 with Wu and Fields Corner residents Vivian and Elisa Girard to give the community something it was missing – a traditional “third place” style of coffee shop one might find in other neighborhoods. They opened their doors at the first floor of the iconic Lenane Building in 2016.
The café became an important place for people across Dorchester to enjoy lunch, a business meet-up, a working lunch, and in off hours – artist receptions and community group meetings utilizing the shop’s liquor license. They used locally sourced coffee and featured store-made baked goods and sandwiches.
The café hit hard times during the pandemic and closed its doors for a time but re-opened in 2021. Wu’s wife, Nhet Le, assumed a greater role in recent years and piloted things back to stability.
The future of the space is not yet known.
