The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday approved an all-alcohol license for Marabou Café, 1592 Blue Hill Ave. in Mattapan, which has been serving Haitian food since August.

At a hearing Wednesday, Paulette Firmin, who owns the restaurant with her sister Guylene Innocent, said Marabou would be the first sit-down restaurant in Mattapan Square with liquor service.

Firmin, who, like her sister, is also a registered nurse, said they are planning hours of 8:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. six days a week, with a closing time of 8 p.m. on Sundays.

“It’s very exciting to see your application,” board Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said. “These are the types of applications we’ve been looking for.”

Marabou was granted one of the 15 liquor licenses the board has for the 02126 Zip code – which are aimed at making it easier for smaller restaurants in outer neighborhoods to offer alcoholic beverages. The license can’t be sold and has to be returned to the board should the restaurant close.
