Fall Athletic Programs

The Fall Athletic program will swing into action in early October with a variety of activities for all age groups being offered. The largest piece of the program is the Intramural and All-Star Floor Hockey component. The Intramural program consists of 18 teams spread into four divisions of play. 10 & U Boys begins on 10/1, 10 & U Girls begins on 10/2, 18 & U Girls begins on 10/2 and 14 & U Boys begins on 10/3. In conjunction with the Intramural leagues the Club will hold try-outs for our two All-Star travel teams that will compete against other Boys and Girls Club from the region in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. League. These try-outs will be held as follows – 13 & Under Girls (9/22) and 13 & Under Boys (9/23). In addition, our Club will host one-day tournaments for 18 & U Girls and 16 & U Boys in October. Also returning this Fall will be the co-ed, 8-team Flag Football program. This program is broken down into two divisions of play: 8-12 year olds (Saturday mornings) and 13-18 year olds (Monday evenings) with league play beginning in October. Please note there is no cost to participate in any of our Intramural or traveling All-Star programs. The Athletic program also offers small group activities such as the Judo Club, High School Basketball Clinic and Beginner Gymnastics. The Judo Club will meet on Thursday afternoons while the Beginner Gymnastics program will meet on Monday afternoons. The High School Basketball Clinic, which helps our teen members prepare for their respective school basketball teams will begin in mid-October. All of the above programs are complimented with open gym times throughout the week. Savin Hill Soccer Program

The 25th season of the Savin Hill Youth Soccer program will kick off on September 12th when the Clinic and Intramural programs open their 8-week seasons. The Clinic, which is open to 4 and 5 year old participants meets every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The four-team Intramural League also meets on Saturdays with games at 9:00 and 10:15 a.m. Players age 9 to 14 have been placed onto teams to compete in the Dorchester Youth Soccer (D.Y.S.) program which will kick off regular season play this coming Sunday with games at Pope John Paul Park in Neponset. These teams will play games through mid-November. Thanks to all of our volunteer coaches and referees who have signed on for the 2009 season. Marr-lin Swim Team Starting Up

The Marr-lin Swim Team will be hitting the water soon as our swimmers prepare for the upcoming N.E.N.E.A.P.C. schedule. The team will hold try-outs (50 yd. swim) for boys and girls ages 6 to 18 on 9/15 and 9/21. On 9/18 there will be a meeting with parents of returning swimmers followed by a second meeting on 9/22 for parents of new swimmers. Practices for new swimmers will begin on 10/1 before being joined by returning swimmers on 10/5. The dual-meet schedule against Boys and Girls Clubs from the area will begin in late October and will run through the league championship meet held in early February. The Marr-lin Swim Team, while competitive in their league, stresses sportsmanship, dedication and hard work. Practices are held four evenings a week and meets are typically held on Saturdays. Walter Denney Center Fall Open House

Our Walter Denney Center Unit located in Harbor Point will be hosting an Open House for all Harbor Point residents on Friday, October 2nd. While at the Open House residents can register for a free one-year membership, tour the facility, meet the staff and enjoy snacks. Parents can also register for our Childcare program for members age 5 to 12 which offers a before school and after school component, as well as extended hours during the school vacation and summer breaks. While at the Open House parents can get information on upcoming programs such as U-Mass Tutoring, Life Skills workshops, Health & Fitness, Art Classes, Stonehill Tutoring, Kids Café and much more.
