Boys & Girls Club Holds Member Recognition Night
In late June, the Club closed out the school year program with our Annual Member Recognition Night Dinner. Over 300 club members, parents, staff and board members were in attendance as members were recognized throughout the various program areas. After a dinner created by Patriot’s Kids Café Director, Maureen Cooper, 2009 Youth of the Year, Max Barbosa, our emcee for the evening, kicked off the evening with the awards for Summer Athletics and Education followed by Fine Arts and Music. After program awards in Athletics (Winter & Spring), Social Recreation, Teen Program, Aquatics and our Denney Center Unit we closed the night with our Program Director Awards, the top award in each program area. These award winners were: Social Recreation – Saide Smith; Aquatics – Emma Murphy and Casey MacKinnon; Athletics – Anthony Brandao; Walter Denney Youth Center – Andre Wideman and Sinoa Johnson; Music – Regina Crawford; and; Teen Center – Robert Lawless and Cedric Correia. Congratulations to these winners and all of the members recognized on this night for their leadership, participation and sportsmanship. All-Star Teams Complete Season
This Spring, the Program Council of Boys and Girls Clubs in the region offered two inter-club leagues – a 12 & U Indoor Soccer League and a 15 & U Flag Football League. We placed two teams in the Soccer league, one each from our Denney Center and Marr Clubhouse Units. Our Denney Center Stars finished out of the play-off hunt but managed to show improvement each week. The Soccer All-Stars at the Marr Unit closed out the regular season in 2nd place overall. In the first round of the play-offs they advanced with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Watertown Club. This set-up a championship match-up against the Medford Club, the only team to beat our Stars in the regular season. In this highly anticipated championship our All-Stars managed to pull out a 5-2 victory and capture their third consecutive league championship. Congratulations to team members: Jasmine Castro, Mauro Barbosa, Devante Teixeira, Dante Lopes, Adrianna Hernandez, Zelito Pina, Erilson Teixeira, Malik Brown, Philp Chomicki, D’Mitra Weathers, Dana Monteiro, Walter Dew-Hollis, Jessica Hernandez and Armani Monteiro. At our Marr Unit the Flag Football All-Stars finished in 3rd place during the regular season. Team members: Philip Lodge, Cedric Correia, Walter Dew-Hollis, Emoni Vicente, Jordan Williams, Francis DePina, Alberto Monteiro, Joshua Herron and Dirique Richards enjoyed a first round play-off victory over the Salem, MA Boys and Girls Club before falling to the John M. Barry Boys and Girls Club of Newton in the championship game. Congratulations to all three teams on their successful seasons.
