December Program Highlights
The month of December will be a busy one, with a large number of special events in all program areas. In our Athletic program all four divisions of the 18-team Intramural Floor Hockey program will conclude with championship games as follows: 14&U Boys (12/4), 10&U Girls (12/10), 18&U Girls (12/10) and 10&U Boys (12/16). Other dates on the schedule include the Senior Flag Football Super Bowl (12/6), the Fall Gymnastics Recital (12/6) and Registration for the Winter Athletics program (12/11) which will include Basketball (Clinic & Intramural programs), Gymnastics Judo and Yoga. The regular season for our 2 All-Star Floor Hockey teams will wind down, followed by the play-off tournament, where both teams hope to retain their respective titles as league champions. In addition, try-outs will continue for our five All-Star Basketball teams which will begin regular season play in January. In our Aquatic program the Fall session of Swim Lessons will wind down early in the month. We will begin accepting re-registrations for the Winter session beginning the week of 12/13. The Marr-lin Swim Team will continue their dual-meet schedule with meets against the Nashua/Woburn Clubs (12/4) and the Charlestown Club (12/18). The team will also attend the Nashua Pentathlon Invitational Meet (12/5) and host it’s Annual Swim-a-thon Fundraiser (12/11). At our Walter Denney Clubhouse located in Harbor Point we will host trips to the Tip-off Classic at the TD Banknorth Garden (12/4), Roller Skating (12/10), the Movies (12/28) and Ice Skating at the Frog Pond (12/29). We will also host a Finance Workshop (12/3) for teens and our Family Fun Night (12/14). In our Social Recreation program we will hold registration (12/4) and fitting/orientation sessions (12/13 & 12/14) for our 150-member outing to Shawnee Peak in January. We will host a group of 25 at the Christmas at the Pops event (12/15), where our members will attend a Christmas Party at the Copley Fairmont Hotel, followed by a performance of the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall. That event will be followed by hosting 40 invited members at the Annual Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Christmas Party at the Tewksbury Country Club (12/19). Shortly after, on 12/23 we will host our Bantam, Cadet and Junior age members at our Annual Christmas Parties with one party for ages 6 to 9 followed immediately afterwards with a party for members ages 10-12. Our Patriot’s Kids Café, offered in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank and Feeding America, will offer a hot, nutritious meal weeknights at 5:00 p.m. During December we will host a special Christmas Family Dinner (12/15) and offer an afternoon meal during the school break on days the Club is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In our Education program Homework Help will continue right up through the school break and One-to-One Tutoring pairings will continue to meet weekly. Our small group clubs: KidsLit (literacy), Pico Crickets (engineering), Icky, Sticky & Goo (science), Y.P.P. (math) and What’s What (social networking) will also continue to meet weekly. In our Arts program our Fall session of Fine Arts classes will wind down before we take registrations for the Winter session of classes on 12/11. Other events include an exhibit of works by students in our Fall Fine Arts Classes & Photography Club (12/1) and a Holiday Performance (12/9) at our Denney Clubhouse which will include members of the Drama Club. In our Music Clubhouse members of the Vocal Group will perform at off-site events on 12/2 and 12/4, our Music Lessons will wind down mid-month and we will host our monthly Open Mic Night (12/17). Lastly, in our Teen program look for our monthly Girls Night (12/1), an Ice Skating trip (12/10) and our Teen Christmas Party (12/17). Meanwhile, the Teen members of the Keystone Club will be volunteering at the Celebration of Giving (12/4), inviting Seniors from the Kit Clark Senior Center to our Annual Holiday Dinner (12/11), volunteering at Christmas in the City (12/18), assisting with set-up at the Wahlberg Foundation Holiday Party (12/18) and spending an afternoon of service at Cradles to Crayons during the school vacation week. To close out the month, the Club will adjust our operating hours to a 9:00 – 4:30 a.m. schedule for our 6-12 year old members during the Christmas School vacation. Please note that Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be able to attend from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. while our teen hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. These hours will be in effect from 12/27 to 12/30.
