February Program Highlights
The month of February looks to be an exciting one, with special activities taking place in all core program areas. In the Arts program our Winter session of classes will continue to meet weekly (except for the school vacation) and we will host an outing to see “Mary Poppins” at the Colonial Theater with the Marilyn Rodman Theater for Kids program (2/24). In our Aquatics program the members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will head to the League Championship Meet on 2/6 and 2/13 at U-Mass Boston. The 2-day meet will feature all 16 teams in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. league and well over 1,000 swimmers. The team will also take part in the Worcester Invitational Meet on 2/26 and our Swim Lesson program will continue the Winter session with weekly classes (excluding the school vacation). The Patriot’s Kids Café program will continue to serve hot, nutritious meals to members ages 6 to 12 weeknights at our new time of 4:30 p.m. and we will host our monthly Family Dinner on 2/16. In our Social Recreation program we will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Party on 2/14, taking a trip to see Disney on Ice – Toy Story III (2/19), and hosting the Smile Initiative, an on-site Dental Health Services program (2/25). In addition, look for daily tournaments, small group games, and our weekly small group clubs (Girls Group, Torch Club, Boys Group, Girl Scouts and Fencing Club) taking place in the Gamesroom. At our Denney Center Clubhouse located in Harbor Point, dates on the calendar include the start of the Winter/Spring session of Stonehill Tutoring (2/1), our Annual Super Bowl Party (2/6), a Valentine’s Day Party (2/14), our monthly Family Dinner & Games Night (2/16), the Parent Forum (2/17), a trip to the Frog Pond for Ice Skating (2/22), and the teen Munch & Mingle (2/23). In our Teen program we will host Girls Night (2/2), a club-wide Madden Video Tournament (2/5), workshops with Girls Radio (2/8 & 2/15), Valentine’s Day activities (2/14) and our monthly Munch & Mingle (2/16). We will also be working with our teen members interested in registering for the Boston Youth Fund Summer Jobs program from 2/22 to 2/25. Our Keystone Leadership program will be taking an outing to Tubing at Nashoba Valley (2/19) and hosting the Annual Cultural Fair (2/26). Look for our small group Clubs (Girls Group, Teen-osophy and the Boys Group) to continue meeting weekly and expanded hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) during the school vacation. In our Education program Homework Help will continue on a Monday – Thursday schedule while One-to-One Tutoring will meet weekly. We will also host a workshop for those teens taking part in the Wilson Daily Prep S.A.T. program (2/15) and a trip to hear International Storyteller, Valerie Tutson (2/22). We also offer weekly small group activities such as KidzLit (literacy), Y.P.P. (math) and Icky, Sticky & Goo (science). Within our Music Clubhouse we will begin our new Poetry Class (2/7), Music Production & Songwriting Class (2/8) and host Open Mic Night (2/18). These will be in addition to weekly small group Music Lessons and scheduled drop-in times. Lastly, in our Athletic program our three Intramural Basketball Leagues, two Basketball Clinic programs, the Judo Club and Beginner Gymnastics Class will continue to meet weekly (excluding the school vacation), while our four All-Star teams will continue home and away games against Clubs from the region. Regional Fine Arts Exhibit & Spring Registration
Congratulations to eight of our members who were recognized this week by seeing their artwork entered into Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts competition, which is currently being organized in five regional exhibits across the country as a follow-up to local exhibits held last month. The following members will be representing our Club at the Northeast regional exhibit being held in Southport, CT during the month of February: Sofia Henriquez, Ella Lescinskas, Matthew Zarnoch, Jarid Hill, Parker Traphagen, Isella Pereira, Stephen Spencer, Abby Kozlowski and Kyla Sneed. Good luck to all of these members on their outstanding entries. Winning entries from the Regional exhibit will be sent to the National exhibit being held in May in New Orleans, LA.
