April Program Highlights
The month of April kicks-off our Spring program and you can expect a number of exciting events in each core program area. In our Athletic program we will host a pre-season 3-on-3 tournament for players participating in the Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (I/SBL) on 4/9 before league play kicks off on 4/13. Other events include our Winter session Gymnastics Recital (4/4), attending the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. Volleyball Jamboree in Billerica (4/6) and the start of our 4-team Indoor Soccer League (4/8). In addition, our All-Star Co-ed Soccer (ages 12&U), Volleyball (ages 13-18), and Flag Football (ages 12-15) teams will begin league play against Clubs from the region this month. In our Music program we will host the final piece of our local competition in the Music Clubhouse Idol program on 4/8. One of our four finalists (Brittney Andrews, Jala Bennett, Isaiah Shephard and Rebecca Frazier) will be chosen to move on to the city-wide competition to be held in May at Berklee College. Other activities include the winding down of Music Lessons with Recital Week (4/25) and our monthly Open Mic Night event on 4/15. At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, we will host a 3-day weekend retreat to the Fr. Sullivan House in Sandwich (4/1 to 4/3), a trip to the Big Apple Circus (4/5), our Family Fun Night (4/13), the start of our new Gardening program (4/19) and our monthly Munch & Mingle (4/20). In our Fine Arts program we will close out the first semester of Spring Classes on 4/15 before beginning a second session on 4/25 that will run through early June. We will also be hosting a Photography Club exhibit (4/1), inviting members to take part in a special Puppet Making Workshop during the school vacation week (4/19 to 4/22) and, hosting Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley, on 4/28 as she recognizes several of our club members who contributed artwork to an upcoming calendar from the Office. In our Aquatics program we will be represented at the National Boys and Girls Club Championship Meet being held in St. Petersburg, FL (4/7 to 4/11). In addition, we will begin accepting registrations for the 6-team Intramural Swim League beginning on 4/4. New swimmers to the program will be required to attend a try-out (50 yd. swim) on either 4/5, 4/12 or 4/16 and the league will begin team practices the week of 4/25. Finally, we will launch the Spring session of Swim Lessons the week of 4/4. From our Social Recreation program for members ages 6 to 12, look for the Fencing Club to attend a competition (4/2), a trip to the NENEAPC Gamesroom Tournament in Nashua, NH (4/9), three of our members (Armani Monteiro, Sam Mastrogiacomo and Darius Hinds) to be recognized prior to the Red Sox game on 4/15 for submitting winning essays in the Jackie Robinson Essay Contest, our Annual Easter Party (4/22) and a visit by the SMILE Initiative, a dental health services program (4/22). Our Patriot’s Kids Café program will continue to serve a hot, nutritious meal weekday afternoons beginning at 4:30 p.m. We will also host our monthly Family Dinner on 4/13. In our Teen program we will be transporting members to the Belle of the Ball program at Simmons College (4/16) and hosting our monthly Munch & Mingle (4/20) while the members of the Keystone Club will be taking part in a Spring Clean-up of the Club (4/16) and volunteering at Boston Shines (4/30). Lastly, in our Education program we will be taking a trip to the B.C.E.C. College Fair (4/12), attending the Operation Progress Scholarship Event (4/19) and taking members to the NENEAPC Cyber Summit (4/21 & 4/22) at the Blue Hill Clubhouse. April School Vacation Week
The Club will be closed on Monday, April 18th in honor of Patriot’s Day then will re-open for the April School Vacation Week on Tuesday, April 19th through Saturday, April 23rd with hours from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for members ages 8 to 12. Our Teen members will be offered a 1 a.m. to 9 p.m. schedule (excluding Saturday). To accommodate the new schedule, the Kids Café program will offer breakfast at 9 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m. to pre-registered members. Please note that hours for our Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (excluding Saturday). Parents, a reminder that all Bantams will need to be picked up promptly at 1:00 p.m. There will be drop-in activities and special events throughout all core program areas during the week.
