May Program Highlights
The month of May will offer a number of special activities throughout all program areas. In our Social Recreation Program for ages 6 to 12 our weekly Girls Group, Torch Club, Girls Scouts and Fencing Club will continue to meet weekly and we will also offer a Mother’s Day Card making activity (5/6), Boys Night (5/7), registration for those members invited to our 6th Annual Camp Northbound Trip (5/7), and trips to Boston Bowl (5/11) and Build-a-Bear (5/26 – cadets only). In our Athletic Program the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (I/SBL) will continue playing games three nights a week and we will host All-Star games for both divisions against visiting teams on 5/21. Our Co-ed Indoor Soccer Clinic (6 & 7 year olds) and 4-team Intramural league (8-12 year olds) will continue games on Fridays. Our All-Star Soccer team will play games against South Boston (5/11) and Watertown (5/18) while our All-Star Volleyball team will have matches against Billerica & Woburn (5/6), Billerica & Waltham (5/11) and Lawrence (5/19). In our Education Program the Homework Help and One-to-One Tutoring programs will remain on the schedule for Mondays through Thursdays (2:30-7:00 p.m.) through the month while our group clubs: Math Blasters (Tuesdays), KidzLit Literacy (Wednesdays), Scratch Computer Animation (Thursdays) and Icky, Sticky & Goo Science (Fridays) will continue to meet weekly.

For our High School Seniors needing any last-minute assistance with college applications, financial aid appeals and/or scholarship searches, please see Emily. In our Teen Program we will be participating in the Walk for Hunger (5/1) and the Mother’s Walk for Peace (5/8) as well as taking trips to Bowling (5/9), Roller World (5/13), and Checkered Flag Karting (5/20). The members of the Girls Group will be taking a day-trip to New York City (5/14) and our monthly Munch & Mingle (5/18) will incude a presentation on Bullying by the Samaritans. Other teen events include attending the Club’s New England Women’s Leadership Awards ceremony at the Seaport World Trade Center (5/12) and hosting invited Career Prep Summer Jobs candidates for processing (5/21). These activities are in addition to daily drop-in activities, tournaments and our weekly group clubs – Open Cook, Hip-Hop Dance, Girls Group and Boys Group. In the Arts Program our 2nd semester of Spring Fine Arts classes for ages 6 to 12 (photography, painting, sculpture, girls/boys art & open art) and evening classes (painting, sculpture, open art and teen arts) will continue to meet weekly through the end of the month. We will also host an exhibit of works from members of our Photography Club on 5/27. In the Music Clubhouse there will be drop-in sessions for ages 10 & older and limited individual and small group lessons. The winner of our local Clubhouse Idol competition, Rebecca Frazier, will be performing at the Showcase event on 5/14 at Berklee College. This event will feature the winning acts from each Music Clubhouse competition. Other Music related events include Club Gee performing at the Women’s Leadership Awards (5/12), our monthly Open Mic Night (5/20) and Friday Night Live (D.J. Hero & Rock Band). At our Denney Center Clubhouse located in Harbor Point we will take part in the Walk for Hunger (5/1), begin accepting registrations for the summer program (5/2), host our Annual Spring Field Day (5/6), join U-Mass Professors for the closing Debate of the Philosophy Club (5/6), attend the Mother’s Walk for Peace (5/8), hold a party to close out the Creative Writing Class (5/12), offer a teen trip to the Movies (5/13), and host a 3-day weekend retreat on Cape Cod (5/20 to 5/22). Our Patriots Kids Café program, offered in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank and Feeding America, will continue to serve hot, nutritious meals to members weekday afternoons at 4:30 and we will host our monthly Family Night Dinner on 5/18. In our Aquatic Program the 6-team Intramural Swim League will run through the month with weekday practices for each team and meets held on Saturday afternoons. As an added bonus, the more experienced swimmers from the league will attend a Relay Carnival at the Watertown Club (5/20). In addition, the Spring session of Swim Lessons will continue to meet weekly before wrapping up in the beginning of June. Lastly, we will be hosting volunteers from City Year and the Dana Hall School for a special service project which will include upgrades to both playgrounds, a clean-up of outdoor spaces and the creation of the Jennifer Kelly Garden.
