Fine Arts Program



The Spring session of our Fine Arts program will be holding registration for classes beginning 3/26 and running through 3/30. The Spring classes will run during April, May and part of June. Currently, we are offering afternoon and evening classes that include Girls Art/Boys Art, Photography, Painting & Drawing, Teen Art, Sculpture and Fuse Bead Fridays throughout the week. These classes will run through the end of the month. During the month of March we have invited 10 members to be part of a Fine Arts/Photography exhibit at the State House (3/12), will be working on artwork for the Victim Witness Calendar of the Attorney General’s Office, and collecting works from our Photography classes over the past year to be entered into Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s Imagemakers Competition. Social Recreation Program Highlights

The Social Recreation program is based out of the Club’s Gamesroom and is for members ages 5-12. There are drop-in activities, table games and special events from 2:00 – 7:45 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 – 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Upcoming special events include a trip to the Movies (3/8), a Dance Contest (3/15), a St. Patrick’s Day Party (3/16), a Challenge The Staff Day (3/24) and a Hike with the Outdoor Adventure Club (3/24). Social Recreation also offers small group clubs such as the previously mentioned Outdoor Adventure Club, Girls Group, Torch Club, Fencing Club, Girls Scouts and Boys Group. This program also hosts the Patriot’s Kids Café program offered in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank. Weeknights, beginning at 4:45 p.m. members can enjoy a hot, nutritious meal as part of their daily schedule. The program is free of cost provided parents have filled out a registration form. Swim Lesson Program Accepting Registrations

The Aquatic program is currently hosting the 3rd session of Swim Lessons with openings available during our weekday classes (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons) as well as limited spots on Saturday mornings. There are classes for Tiny Tots (ages 3,4 & 5) as well as school-age (ages 6 to 18). The classes, which are grouped by skill level, are held weekly in eight-week sessions throughout the school year. The cost is $35 per session which includes goggles and cap. Those participants who maintain attendance standards are allowed to re-enroll in their respective class at the end of each session. Teen Program News

The Teen program at the Club offers a drop-in Teen Center with activities weekdays from 2-7:45 p.m. The Center offers computers, table games, video games and small group activities. Additional Teen programming includes the Career Prep Program and the Keystone Club. Thanks to our partnership with the Boston Youth Fund and private donors, the Career Prep program is currently working with 35 teens who serve as Peer Leaders within the Boys and Girls Club program areas. The program is also working with teens who have registered with the Boston Youth Fund’s HOPELINE and are looking for summer employment. In the coming months, working with past partners such as the Boston Youth Fund, the Boston Private Industry Council, M.L.K. Scholars program, Boston Police Department and U-Mass Boston, we are hoping to place over 100 teens in summer positions inside the Club as well as in off-site internships. The 30 members of the Keystone Club, our Teen Leadership program recently completed a service project with Cradles to Crayons, hosted a Cultural Fair and took part in phase one of a partnership with the Jenks Leadership Institute at Boston College. Upcoming events include volunteering at the Massachusetts Special Olympics (3/10), part two of the Jenks/ Leadership Institute (3/22) and hosting a Waterstop for the Boston Marathon Charity Runners Team (3/31). Other Teen events on the schedule include our Annual Youth of the Year Interviews (3/9) and a Basketball Game against the Boston Police Department team (3/22).
