May Program Highlights



The month of May will offer a number of special activities throughout all program areas. In our Social Recreation Program for ages 6 to 12 our weekly small group clubs will continue along with the following special events: Summer Program Registration (2nd of three) on 5/2, the Torch Club Summit (5/11 & 5/12) and Summer Program Registration (3rd of three) on 5/17. In our Athletic Program the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (I/SBL) will continue playing games three days a week and we will host All-Star games for both divisions against visiting teams on 5/19. Our Co-ed Indoor Soccer Clinic (6 & 7 year olds) and 4-team Intramural league (8-12 year olds) will continue games on Fridays. Our All-Star Soccer team will play games against Watertown (5/1) and Salem (5/7), while our All-Star Volleyball team will have matches against Waltham/Nashua (5/4), Billerica & Waltham (5/9) and Newton (5/16). In our Education Program the Homework Help and One-to-One Tutoring programs will remain on the schedule for Mondays through Thursdays (2:00-6:00 p.m.) through the month while our group clubs: Kids College (Mondays), Dough! Time & Money (Tuesdays), Mad Science (Wednesdays), KidsLit (Thursdays) and T.G.I.F. Theme Days (Fridays) will continue to meet weekly. For our High School students we will be attending the Convention Center College Fair (5/3) and the Operation Progress Awards Ceremony (5/31). In our Teen Program we will be hosting a Cinco De Mayo Party (5/4), hosting registration for the Summer Jobs program (5/5), attending the Club’s New England Women’s Leadership Awards Breakfast at the Seaport World Trade Center (5/16) and attending the Massachusetts State Youth of the Year competition in Fall River (5/17). Members of the Keystone Club will be hosting a Spring Clean-up (5/12), assisting at a Food Pantry with The Greater Boston Food Bank (5/16) and volunteering at the Run to Remember (5/22). In the Arts Program our Spring Fine Arts classes for ages 6 to 12 (photography, sculpture, girls/boys art & fuse bead fridays) and evening classes (drawing & painting, sculpture, open art and teen arts) will continue to meet weekly through the end of the month. We will also host an outing with the Marilyn Rodman Theater for Kids program to see “Beauty & The Beast” at the Opera House (5/31). In the Music Clubhouse there will be drop-in sessions for ages 10 & older and our Spring session of classes will begin on 5/9. We will also host our monthly Open Mic Night on 5/18. At our Denney Center Clubhouse located in Harbor Point we will begin accepting registrations for the summer program (5/1), taking teens on a Roller Skating trip (5/4), hosting the monthly Parents Forum (5/14), offering a 3-day weekend retreat on Cape Cod (5/18 to 5/20) and hosting the Teen Munch & Mingle (5/24). Our Patriots Kids Café program, offered in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank and Feeding America, will continue to serve hot, nutritious meals to members weekday afternoons at 4:45 p.m. In our Aquatic Program the 6-team Intramural Swim League will run through the month with weekday practices for each team and meets held on Saturday afternoons. As an added bonus, the more experienced swimmers from the league will attend a Relay Carnival at the Watertown Club (5/18). Intramural & All-Star Soccer Program

Week number one of the 4-team co-ed Intramural Soccer program was held with two games played on Friday afternoon. In the opener Celtic F.C. scored a late goal to defeat Inter Milan 1-0. Bryan DeLaCruz (1 goal) led the Celtic F.C. attack. In the second game F.C. Barcelona received their offense from Justin Carvalho (3 goals), Sean Kelly (1 goal), and Sani Miller (1 goal) helping them defeat Manchester United by a score of 5-3. Brian Gonzalez (2 goals) and Tyler Wright (1 goal) provided the offense for Manchester United. The Defensive Players of the Week were Patrick Kelly of F.C. Barcelona and Victoria Andrews of Inter Milan while the Offensive Players of the Week were Justin Carvalho of F.C. Barcelona and Bryan DeLaCruz of Celtic F.C. In addition to the Intramural program we have two All-Star teams playing, one made up of players from the Intramural program, and one from our Denney Center Unit. Upcoming games for the Marr Clubhouse All-Stars include Watertown (5/1) and Salem, MA (5/7) while our Denney Center Stars will play Watertown (5/4), East Boston (5/11) and Salem, MA (5/18).
