Two restaurants located along the Dorchester Avenue corridor – King Do and Pizza 24 – are making news this month, with both having recently hosted abutter’s meetings to discuss their hopes about permits.
In March, King Do bakery and restaurant, which has long held court at 1229 Dorchester Ave. in Glover’s Corner, relocated up the street to 1154 Dorchester Ave. in a space formerly occupied by Van Shabu.
“The reason for relocating is that our lease was up and the building owner is selling the building and so we had to just up and move quickly,” said Nhi Tran, speaking for the business during a May 15 online meeting.
The restaurant is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and has been serving customers on a temporary common victualler’s license. Proprietors are seeking a permanent permit.
“We are a casual Vietnamese eatery serving Vietnamese quick bites,” she said. “We offer dine in and take out. It’s very similar to our original location with the same layout, but a little bit smaller. We are not serving alcohol.”
Meanwhile, in Fields Corner, Pizza 24 at 301 Adams St. is applying for an all-alcohol license to complement offerings at their pizza and sub shop. They have applied for one of the new restricted licenses and held an online abutter’s meeting on May 20.
“Our reason for applying,” said owners Manuel and Ivanilson Darosa, “is because many of our customers ask if we offer beer or wine with the meal,” said Manuel. “Being able to serve a glass of wine or cold beers with pizza or other items will make dining here more enjoyable and complete.”
He added that there will be no late nights and no bar culture resulting from a license. “We’re not trying to become a bar or change the vibe of the neighborhood,” he added. “Our goal here is to be a positive presence in the neighborhood and serve neighbors better.”
