Amid a streetscape of 19th-century Victorians on Savin Hill Avenue stands a modern, California-style home overlooking a scenic, sandy shoreline. Listed for sale on Sept. 29, the unusual home attracted more than 80 visitors and went under agreement less than a week later for more than its $1.35 million asking price.

“In 25-plus years selling real estate here, this house has drawn more unique interest than I can remember in a long time,” said real estate agent Kerry Dowlin, who represents the sellers.

The 1,936-square-foot condominium at 201R Savin Hill Ave. includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a multipurpose room. It is part of a three-unit association — the adjacent property, 201 Savin Hill Ave., has two levels, with one unit on each.

The buyers — a couple who did not want to be named— came across the listing on Oct. 2, went to the condo’s open house the next day, and placed the highest bid. Now that the offer has been accepted, the sale is expected to close in two months, Dowlin said.

What stood out most, she said, were the waterside deck and the windows that stretch from floor to ceiling, offering a panoramic view of Malibu Beach.

The custom built-ins and finishes — such as the Calacatta marble countertops, integrated cabinetry, and shiplap accent walls — “you just don’t see very often,” Dowlin said.

The interior design evokes California’s coastal neighborhoods, such as Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The home was custom-built in 2016 by Jacqueline Nuñez, a Boston real estate developer who acquired the Savin Hill property in 2009 for $585,000, according to the deed. She converted it into a three-unit condominium later that year, court records show.

In November 2025, Needham Bank foreclosed on 201R Savin Hill Ave. and sold it at auction for $740,000. The current owner has never occupied the property, according to an informational packet for potential homebuyers.

Dowlin said the real estate market has been slow this year because of high interest rates, prompting many potential buyers to put their searches on hold. Still, she said, properties in Savin Hill sell fast because of the neighborhood’s walkability and accessibility to the beach, train station, grocery store, and restaurants.

“When you have an exceptional product in an excellent location, this is just a perfect example that there’s still going to be a bidding war,” Dowlin said. “It just speaks to the quality of the product.”
