April Program Highlights
The month of April kicks-off our Spring program which will run through the end of June. Currently, there are a number of special activities scheduled to take place in all program areas. In our Aquatic program we will begin accepting registrations for the 6-team Intramural Swim League on 4/5. After hosting try-outs for new simmers (50 yd. swim) on 4/8 and 4/13 we will begin team practices and meets the week of 4/26. The Spring session of Swim Lessons will continue through the month (excluding the school break) and 13 members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will close out their season by attending the Boys and Girls Club National Championship Meet in St. Petersburg, FL (4/9 – 4/12). In our Arts program we will kick-off our new Ballet Class on 4/2 and begin the Spring session of Fine Arts classes (painting, sculpture, illustration, girls/boys art and open art) the week of 4/5. The start of our small group evening classes in Beginner Photography, Performance Art & Video, Fashion Photography and Teen Arts will also begin the week of 4/5. Later in the month we will also be taking works from our recent Photography Club exhibit to be entered into Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s National Photography competition. Our Music Clubhouse program will continue weekly drop-in, individual and small group lessons on a weekly basis up through our Recital for family and friends on 4/30. We will also host trips to the Berklee College Music Showcase (4/15) and the Zildjian Cymbal Factory. In our Education program we will continue Homework Help (Mon. – Thurs.) and One-to-One Tutoring through the month (excluding the school vacation). Our weekly group clubs: Icky, Sticky Goo Science (Wednesdays), PICO Cricket Inventions (Thursdays) and Scratch Computer Animation (Fridays) will also continue through the month (excluding the school vacation). In our Athletics program we will kick-off the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (ages 13-18) on 4/6 as well as our Clinic (ages 6 & 7) and 4-team Intramural (ages 8-12) Indoor Soccer program on 4/9. We also have two teams from our Winter All-Star Basketball program competing in the play-off tournament. The 15&U Boys will be traveling to the Blue Hill Club while the 12&U Girls will be hosting Chelsea. If either of these teams emerge victorious they will play in the Championship games scheduled for 4/3 at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Other Athletic events include the start of the Yoga program (4/10) and the start-up for our All-Star Indoor Soccer (ages 8-12) and Flag Football (ages 12-15) seasons against Clubs from the region. At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, events upcoming include: a trip to the Movies (4/2), a 4-day retreat to Cape Cod (4/16-4/19), the teen Munch & Mingle (4/28), the Parents Forum (4/29) and the Spring Field Day (4/30). In our Teen program we will host an event with Girls Radio (4/1), hold the Grand Opening of the Girls Lounge (4/7) and the Keystone Club will host an intra-Club Scavenger Hunt (4/17). We will also be hosting the Munch & Mingle (4/15), taking members to the Belle of the Ball Event at Simmons College (4/17) and taking part in the state-wide Youth of the Year competition in Marlboro (4/29). In our Social Recreation program we will offer trips to Build-a-Bear (4/14), Pizzeria Uno (4/21) and Boston Bowl (4/28). We will also be welcoming back the SMILE Initiative for on-site dental care (4/22) and hosting registration night for those invited to Camp Northbound – 2010 (4/28). Lastly, our Patriot’s Kids Café program will continue to serve hot, nutritious meals weeknights at 5:00 p.m. as well as kicking off the 5-week Rainbow Buffet nutrition education class (4/6).
Keystone Club News
The Keystone Club, our Teen Leadership program, is currently holding a raffle fundraiser and will host an inter-club Scavenger Hunt on 4/17 to kick-off what will be a busy schedule of activities. The group will follow that up by participating in Boston Shines on 5/1, joining other volunteer groups around the city to clean parks, main streets and abandoned lots. Once again, our teens will assist at the Savin Hill Park clean-up. Other projects on the horizon include a Spring Clean-up of the Club grounds (5/8), a Yard Sale/Car Wash Fundraiser (5/22), volunteering at the Special Olympics (6/19), our 2nd Annual “Opportunity for Community” Day (7/10) and two service projects with The Greater Boston Food Bank over the summer break.
