The final division of the 18-team Intramural Floor Hockey program at the Club completed play as the Maple Leafs defeated the Whalers in the championship game. The regular season ended with the Maple Leafs in first place at 7-0 followed by the Whalers at 4-2-1, the Sharks at 3-3-1, Red Wings at 3-4, the Sabres at 2-5 and the Avalanche at 1-6.

In the first of two quarter-final games Red Wings defeated the Sabres, 6-2. Abhay Shukla (4 goals), Edison Vazquez (1 goal) and Samuel Alvidor (1 goal) led the Red Wings while John Cooper (2 goals) provided the Sabres offense. In the second game, by an identical 6-2 score, the Sharks bested the Avalanche. Saide Smith (2 goals), Brendan Manning (1 goal), Luke Harrington (1 goal), Isaac Butler (1 goal) and Reed Garvey (1 goal) led the Sharks while Jordan Washington (1 goal) and Cecil Bennett (1 goal) led the Avalanche.

The following week two semi-final games were held. In the opener the Maple Leafs exploded for a 16-5 win over the Red Wings. Sam Mastrogiacomo (6 goals), Philip Chomicki (5 goals), Nick Mastrogiacomo (3 goals) and Neil O’Flaherty (2 goals) led the Maple Leafs while the Red Wings were led by Edison Vazquez (2 goals), Samuel Alvidor (2 goals) and Rowan Martin (1 goal). In the next game The Whalers, behind Andronique DosSantos (2 goals) downed the Sharks 2-0. Two weeks later, delayed by a week thanks to an early winter storm, the championship game was held. Thanks to the experience of Nick Mastrogiacomo (3 goals), Sam Mastrogiacomo (2 goals), Philip Chomicki (1 goal) and Neil O’Flaherty (1 goal) the Maple Leafs captured the 2007 championship by a 7-0 score over the Whalers.

Denney Center January Events

The Walter Denney Youth Center located in the Harbor Point section of Dorchester houses the Club’s third operating site. Open since March of 2003, the Center offers drop-in programs for members ages 8-18 and a Childcare program for youth ages 5-12. In the month of January there are a number of special events planned including the Parents Forum on Jan. 3, Cooking Class on Jan. 8, Teen Munch & Mingle on Jan. 16, a Spelling Bee on Jan. 24 and a Teen Scavenger Hunt on Jan. 25. Other events include the kick-off of our Ski Club which will hold trips on Jan. 12 (8-12 year olds) and Jan. 26 (teens), a Hunger Awareness activity on Jan. 19 which will include a six-hour fast and educational activities on hunger and homelessness, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest, the return of our One-to-One Tutoring programs with UMass Boston and Stonehill College and the start of our Torch Club for 10-13 year olds. Lastly, we will hold our Winter Open House on Jan. 19 for children and parents in the Harbor Point community. There will be activities, tours and a chance to register for membership and accompanying programs. The activities above are offered in addition to field trips, Kids Café, McCormack Gym for teens, the Life Skills program with Geiger-Gibson Health Center, the WARM2Kids Computer Lab and more. All-Star Basketball Season To Begin

This Winter the Club has five traveling All-Star teams competing in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. league against Boys and Girls Clubs from across the region. With regular season play beginning in January, opening games for each team will be as follows: Boys 12 & under on Jan. 18 at home against the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club; Girls 13 & under on the road against the Jordan Boys and Girls Club of Chelsea on Jan. 16; Boys 15 & under opens at home against Salem, MA on Jan. 10; Our Girls 18 & under will host Nashua, NH on Jan. 3; and our Boys 18 & under kicks things off on Jan. 2 at home against Chelsea. All five teams will continue regular season play through the middle of March with those teams qualifying for play-offs taking part in the post-season tournament.
