Career Fair set for August 3
On August 3rd the Club will be hosting a Career Fair for our teen members as part of the Safe Summer Streets program. We are expecting approximately 15 professionals to attend, including some Club Alumni, who will speak to teens about their careers, including how they got to their current position, their educational background, likes and dislikes of their jobs and to offer advice to the teens as they move forward with school and career choices.

The professionals will be grouped into panels of five and our teen participants will rotate around to see each panel during the night. Immediately afterwards, we will host everyone for a light dinner. This will provide an informal arena for any follow-up questions that may have arisen during the event. The Career Fair will be open to all teen members at no cost as well as to those taking part in the Career Launch Summer Jobs program. For more information please contact VP of Programming, Mike Joyce at ext. 2110.

Jr. Police Academy

The Social Recreation program will be offering a special opportunity for club members ages 8 to 12 to participate in the Jr. Police Academy program. In collaboration with the Boston Police Department, the Academy will be held the week of August 1st and will run on a 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule. The Academy offers participants a chance to visit sites related to the field of law including a courthouse, a jail and police headquarters as well as offering fun activities such as a Duck Tour, bowling and the movies. The Academy also gives members a chance to see what it is like to be a Police Officer and to meet officers from the local station.

The week-long Academy will be open to the first 10 invited members returning a signed permission slip and please note, there is no cost to participate. For additional information, or a permission slip, please contact Social Recreation Director, Zack Solomon at ext. 2121.

Summer Program Partnerships

Throughout the Summer program the Club teams with our valued partners to provide on-site and off-site programming opportunities for members ages 6 to 18. This week 20 members will be spending five days in Hinsdale, MA at the Dan Duquette Sports Academy thanks to our partnership with the Yawkey Foundation and the American Ireland Fund.

This week will also kick-off a seven-week program with the Massachusetts Golf Association (M.G.A.) that will see 10 members travel to Norton, MA to take part in golf lessons. On Thursdays throughout the summer we will see the Read Boston Storymobile visit the Club with Storytellers and free books for our youngest members.
During the weeks of July 18 and July 25 the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (M.Y.S.A.) will host Clinics from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Our daytime program participants will rotate through the Clinic to take part in drills, competitions and scrimmages. Outstanding participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. On July 18 we will host the B.U. Dance Collective program who will conduct a dance workshop for 25 members. On July 21 and again on August 11, representatives from the S.M.I.L.E. Initiative will be on-site to provide dental health services to our members. The program will provide cleanings and exams for those members registered. On July 25, the EXCEL Recycle Center will conduct a Tile Art Workshop for 20 members. On August 2, thanks to the Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts (A.G.M.) Cultural Day program the Curious Creatures program will visit the Club. This hands-on workshop allows our members to see and touch a variety of kid friendly animals.

On August 3, we will partner with the New England Aquarium for an on-site workshop at our Denney Center Unit. On August 4, partnering with A.G.M., the Metro Lacrosse program will visit the Club to host a Clinic for 40 members. For our teen members, on August 9, thanks to A.G.M., we will travel to Dedham to go Rock Climbing with Youth Enrichment Services (Y.E.S.). These opportunities are in addition to ongoing partnerships with The Greater Boston Food Bank for the Patriot’s Kids Café program, which provides breakfast, lunch and teen dinners each weekday and the Four Seasons Hotel, whose staff is assisting us with a new Gardening program. For more information on our summer programs please contact Director of Program Development, Laurene Plourde at 617-288-7120, ext. 2111.
