On Saturday, June 4, the Club will host a Spring Field Day event from 3 – 8 p.m. There will be games, food and plenty of activities for all ages to join in on inside our Outdoor Athletic Area. In addition there will be tours for new members and information about the upcoming summer program. We encourage old and new members alike to stop by and join the fun.

The Field Day will conclude a busy day of activities including the championship match for the Indoor Soccer League, the Triple Play Olympics, a Girl Scouts trip to Connecticut, the championship meet for the 6-team Intramural Swim League and orientation for the 2011 Camp Northbound trip. Intermediate/Senior Basketball League

With two weeks of regular season play remaining, teams are positioning themselves for the post-season tournament in the 10-team I/S Basketball League. This past week four regular season games were held while Friday and Saturday we hosted the All-Star weekend activities. In the first of two regular season games on Tuesday evening UConn bested Kentucky in overtime by a score of 60-59. Tyrell Pugh (29) led UConn while Kentucky was led by Bernard Barbosa (23). In the late game Stanford, behind Donizette Fernandes (23) defeated Boston College 56-54. Jamari Jackson (19) led the Boston College offense.

Two games were also held on Thursday night with UConn defeating Syracuse 75-63 in the opener. Tyrell Pugh (24) and Maurice Evans (25) led UConn and Syracuse respectively. In the late game California held off a late rally from Kentucky to capture a 73-62 victory. Andrew Maestre (23) led California while David Turner (19) led Kentucky. On Friday night the 3-point Shoot-out and the Dunk Contest were held to kick-off the All-Star weekend festivities. Congratulations to Zelito Pina and Emoni Vicente who were winners of the Intermediate and Senior divisions of the 3-point shoot-out respectively.

In the Dunk Contest it was Walter Dew-Hollis winning the Intermediate Division while Tyrik Jackson won the Senior division.

On Saturday, our Intermediate All-Stars hosted a team from the Waltham Boys and Girls Club. In this game the Club All-Stars opened up an early lead which carried them to a 69-52 victory.

Congratulations to the following All-Stars selected by league players and coaches: Danielson Correia, Kaylab Silva, Joaquim Pires, Cedric Correia, Jerry Lopes, Markiah Monteiro, Giovanni DePina, A.J. Monteiro, Philip Lodge and Walter Dew-Hollis. In the Senior division, our All-Stars faced an early 20-point deficit before making a comeback to earn a 75-74 victory over the Wolfpack A.A.U. of Weymouth. Congratulations to the following players on their selection to the All-Star team: Rayshaw Matthews, Bernard Barbosa, Tyrell Pugh, Joey Brandao, Tyrik Jackson, Pat O’Sullivan, Jonge DaSilva, Dwayne Harper and Andre Wideman.

After two more weeks of regular season play, the play-off tournament will begin on June 7 and will conclude with a best-of-three championship series for both divisions on June 14, 16 and 18. For information on any of our upcoming Athletic programs please contact Bruce Seals at ext. 2210.
Safe Summer Streets Basketball/Swim Team Registration

On June 11 we will begin taking registrations for two upcoming Safe Summer Streets program activities. Included in the registration will be the 16-team Safe Summer Streets Basketball League for boys and girls ages 13-18. There will be three divisions of play: Girls (ages 13-18); Intermediate Boys (ages 13-15); and Senior Boys (ages 15-18). The league will play games in the evenings in July and August. The Summer Swim Team will also begin taking registrations for swimmers ages 6 to 18 who can pass a 50 yd. swim. The team practices Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings during July and August. The program keeps our Marr Clubhouse open an additional 36 hours per week for our teen members on a Monday through Saturday schedule from 5 – 11 p.m. .
